Bernard Cornwell has long been one of my favorite authors. I usually read his books set in the medieval period, but I thought I’d give one of his other series a try, The Starbuck Chronicles.
Rebel is the first book in that series. Set during the American Civil War, the Starbuck Chronicles follows the journey of Nate Starbuck, a northerner who joins the Confederate Army as a rebellion against his father, who is a minister and raised Nate in a strict, spritual home.
I’m halfway through Rebel now, about to begin the first major battle during the war at Manasses (Bull Run).
If you’ve read this series, let me know what you think. Is it worth the time investment to read all four books, as I’m don’t believe Cornwell ever completed the series?
