Special thanks to my friend Trudy for sending the Heroic Age website link to me.
The Heroic Age (A Journal of Early Medieval Northwestern Europe) is a fully peer-reviewed academic journal intended for professionals, students and independent scholars that focuses on North-western Europe during the early medieval period (from the early 4th through 13th centuries). It seeks to foster dialogue between all scholars of this period across ethnic and disciplinary boundaries, including—but not limited to—history, archaeology, and literature pertaining to the period.
The Heroic Age publishes both general and special issues within the broad context of Early Medieval North-western Europe.
I’ll have to add this site as a permanent link in my blogroll under medieval resources.
I read The Heroic Age regularly. It’s always interesting and thought-provoking.
I’m glad someone pointed me to the site. I had never come across it before.
Wow, thanks for linking to that! I miss reading academic articles since I finished college so it’s great to see one free on the web. It looks really interesting–the current issue has an article on the historicity of King Arthur (or rather, apparently, the lack thereof)!
No problem, Clare. Hope you find it useful! I just finished reading a historical fiction novel based on the true character of King Arthur. You can read my review and interview with the author, if you haven’t already: https://steventill.com/2009/03/02/review-of-the-kingmaking-by-helen-hollick/ and https://steventill.com/2009/03/09/interview-with-helen-hollick-author-of-the-kingmaking/
