Christian Bale as Robin Hood

The movie that sparked my interest in the medieval period was Robin Hood Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner. Ever since, I have been enamored with anything and everything dealing with the Middle Ages: movies, historical fiction novels, non-fiction books, television documentaries. The next in line: Nottingham, directed by Ridley Scott. I’m a big fan of Ridley Scott’s other films — Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven — so I have high hopes for this one. Russell Crowe is slated to play the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Sienna Miller is to play Maid Marian. Talks are that Christian Bale is in consideration for the role of Robin Hood. I like this choice. I think Christian Bale would do a fine job; he’s impressed me in all the other films I’ve seen him in, especially Batman (can’t wait to see that one later this summer). How do you feel Christian Bale would do as Robin Hood? Would you prefer to see someone else in this role? One thing I feel this movie will be lacking, and someone who will be difficult to replace — the actor who helped make Prince of Thieves such a great movie — is Morgan Freeman. It just won’t be the same without him.

  1. I loved Robin Hood Prince of Theives. I think I memorized every word when it came out. I remember going to the theatre and worrying that I wouldn’t get in because the movie was PG 13 and I was about 12.

I really like Christian Bale as well. I think he’s an excellent actor and really becomes the characters he plays. I’m not sure about Sienna Miller as Maid Marian though. I can’t help but picture Marian with that beautiful dark curly hair. I will definitely miss Morgan Freeman too.

Ridley Scott has a lot to live up to. We shall see!

  2. I was the same way when Robin Hood first came out. I watched that movie repeatedly. I love the musical score to that movie.

I like Christian Bale, and I think he’d do a good job, but now I’m hearing Sam Riley will be the choice to play Robin Hood. I don’t know much about him, not sure if I’ve seen him in anything before.

  3. I think the movie is already pretty heinously cast. Sienna Miller? I don’t think she’s believable as a period heroine.

  4. I didn’t know much about Sienna Miller before. I looked her up and I’m not too impressed either. I hope at least they’ll dye her hair brown.

  5. Russell Crowe’s accent seems to already resemble something that would fit in a new Robin Hood movie… though he’ll probably have to get a bit slimmer than what his recent role in Body of Lies
