It’s been a while since I’ve provided any updates on the progress of my novel. Currently, I still have my test group reading it, and I hope to have the majority of their feedback by the end of this month so I can return to editing again starting in September. I know two of my readers have finished the novel and a third is very close. Not sure where the other two are with it, as I haven’t spoken with them in a couple of weeks. I did speak with one of my readers last night who had completed it, and we discussed briefly various plot points and characters that will need to be re-worked. I plan to sit down and have a more a thorough discussion with him, hopefully sometime next week. Also, it’s been a little hectic lately as I’m in the process of trying to move. My goal is to have a draft first chapter up on my site before the end of the year. We’ll see how that goes.
I like your way of going with several readers and considering revising due to their recommendations. I know nothing of writing techniques, is this a common way to put together the finishing touches?
Looking forward to reading more
Judy, I’m not exactly sure how other writers approach the process. I assume everyone is different. I know some actually have professional editors proofread their work for a price, but I couldn’t afford to do that. I’m fortunate to know several people who could serve as a good test group for me. I chose five people, a split of males and females, who either read the particular genre a lot and/or have degrees in English or are currently obtaining their English degrees. One of them actually does proofread and edit for freelance work, but she was kind enough not to charge me.
I’ll be waiting for that sample chapter…
Hopefully I can have it available soon. I’m actually in the process of moving right now: just sold my house and bought another one, and we have to go through the whole process of scheduling inspections, financing, packing, closing, etc. That’s why I haven’t been able to post as much lately to my blog or others’ blogs. Next week, I should be back on more of a normal schedule.
