So I’m not a Harry Potter fan, never actually read any of the books, but the new theme park at Universal looks pretty cool. It opened this past weekend. If anyone had the chance to go, I’d like to hear first hand how you thought it was. Apparently, 5000 people were waiting in line for opening day.
The Web site is also fairly engaging. I was browsing it a bit this morning.
Check out the photo gallery of opening day at the Orlando Sentinel.
My family+friends and I have been going since the soft opening, and it’s fantastic. I can highly recommend the frozen butterbeer! 🙂 Also, everyone should get in line for Forbidden Journey whether they plan to ride or not. The line goes through Hogwarts castle and is definitely worth the experience!
When did the soft opening start?
What’s the butterbeer taste like?
They opened up the area for a few weeks before the grand opening (I assume to “beta” test the crowd, in a way). Going since the opening is quite different; the crowds are pretty intense, and they’ve even started lining people up to get into Honeyduke’s.
I saw a rumor that butterbeer is a mixture of butterscotch and cream soda, and that sounds about right. The regular is quite rich, so I recommend the frozen. It tastes like a butterscotch Slurpee, in my opinion. 🙂
The WIzarding World of Harry Potter is awesome. The Forbidden Journey ride is exciting and filled with a lot of cool occurrences from the books and films. The Dragon challenge is the same exact ride as Dueling Dragons but the cue to get to the ride has changed and is fun to just walk through. Butterbeer is great and leaves a very funny butterbeer mustache, if you drink it right. 😉 Honeydukes and Ollivanders are a little small, but still pretty fun and cool inside. Cauldron Cakes are what you want out of Honeydukes. Hogwarts Castle is amazing and seeing it at night, with the moon in the right place only adds to the awe of it all. The atmosphere, ignoring the hordes of fans and tourists, is really cool. A must see if vacationing in Orlando and totally worth the $$ for a season pass if you live in the area.
Rob, how much are tickets per day? per season pass?
